Novak Djokovic wants to win the Calendar Grand Slam in 2019 and break Roger Federer’s record of 20 Grand Slam titles, revealed his coach Marian Vajda.
“Novak would like to win the calendar Grand Slam, that is, to win all four greatest tournaments in the same year. Also, we are talking about the record of Roger Federer. Novak currently has 14 titles, and Roger has 20. To accomplish all that, we need to work hard and he has to be healthy,” Vajda said.
Djokovic was dominating in 2015 and 2016 but after winning Roland Garros in 2016, when he was the champion of all four grand slams titles, he suffered a decline in his form.
In early 2017, Djokovic and Vajda mutually ended their cooperation. The two joined forces again before the clay court season in 2018 and went on to have great success, winning two Grand Slams (Wimbledon & US Open), two Masters titles (Cincinnati and Shanghai) and regaining back the No.1 spot.
“We didn’t expect that kind of success. When I started working with Novak again, he was in no shape to win important matches. I knew that he will be a champion again, I just didn’t know when,” said Vajda.
